We are recruiting new members!
Our Mission
The Authoritarian Political Systems Group (APSG) brings together researchers studying authoritarian politics across the globe. The APSG mission is to advance academic research on authoritarian regimes while developing an international community of scholars working on these topics. We place particular emphasis on supporting early-career researchers and on connecting researchers working on different aspects of autocracies and with different regional concentrations. At the heart of our group is our bi-weekly workshop featuring early-career researchers presenting their ongoing work on authoritarian politics. In addition, we also organize a yearly in-person Authoritarian Politics Conference, as well as other panels and social events at international conferences. We also host a newsletter (1,600+ subscribers) where we share updates from the authoritarian politics field.
Team Duties
We are recruiting up to two members for the organizing team for a period of a year (with potential extension) starting from August 2026. Among the main duties of this group are:
- organizing and hosting the APSG workshops (Fall and Spring seasons), the in-person conference that takes place in June every year, and any other event (including those in collaboration with other organizations and groups)
- managing the monthly newsletter, and social media communication
- planning future activities
We strive to create a dynamic team that can bring creativity, proposals, and innovative ideas to the field of authoritarian politics across multiple realms. We welcome applications from people in all levels of the academic career (PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, assistant professors, associate professors, and full professors), working in any place of the world, and doing research on any aspect of authoritarian politics. All team members volunteer their time and work to APSG as it is a non for profit organization.
